Costa Rica Snapshot: Playa Tamarindo

The Tamarindo region of Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast is a surfers’ mecca, and there’s something for riders of all abilities, from novice to pro, long board or short board. Key to this popularity are the region’s year-round waves and wide variety of surf conditions, from beginner friendly beach breaks to reef breaks and points that create long, hollow lefts and rights. Favorite sites include Playa Grande, Pico Pequeno, and Playa Langosta.

The area is home to a number of surf schools, shops and hotels that offer custom tailored surf vacations and surf safaris to more remote beaches and offshore breaks. Tamarindo is a lively beachfront town that provides a range of accommodation choices, from dorm style surf hostels and eco lodges to upscale beachfront resorts.
