Northwest Florida

Florida’s panhandle once dismissively labeled “The Redneck Riviera,” has come into its own with spectacular beaches and an increasingly diverse range of resorts and vacation experiences.

Overview

Emerald and ivory, stretching east-to-west as far as the eye can see. That’s the allure of Florida’s northwest coast, where a 150-mile swath of powder-fine sand beaches invite long shoreside walks and languid afternoons under a beach umbrella. This is coastal living in the slow lane in a region where cottages and campsites are favorite vacation choices, and the culinary scene is dominated by local eateries serving fresh-caught menus.

State Parks and nature preserves protect large swaths of pristine beach, and there’s a seaside haven for every taste. Historic fishing villages and ramshackle beach bars share the shore with immaculate seaside enclaves, golf resorts, and mid-sized coastal cities that offer urban conveniences without the sprawl. Beyond the beach, the region is a realm of meandering spring-fed rivers, farm country, forests, and small towns that invite exploratory day trips on backroads.
